The Finish

They have made it!!!…..well done Ben, Craig and Tim….amazing stuff guys!!!!

Massive, Big, Huge, Humongous, Enormous, Giant, Epic congratulations from all of the End2End contacts……we think your fab!!!!!

Well, that's is then. In two blistering hours of riding this morning we made it to John O'Groats and the end of our bike ride. Apart from a couple of nasty little hills near the start the riding was very gently undulating which, with the strong tail wind enabled us to keep an average speed of over 20mph. After 950+ miles of riding this was no mean feat and I was grinning like an idiot for much of the ride. We sped into John O'Groats three abreast not caring if anyone wanted to overtake, then romped up to Duncansby Head for what is the real far corner of Britain and in my mind, the true finish of the ride.

Matt produced a bottle of champagne and after a few photos we wobbled back into John O'Groats feeling surprisingly smashed. Thankfully the tourists were thin on the ground around the tacky souvenir shops and the bloke who puts up the waymarker boards showing the distance to your home town (for a fee of course) must have been having a lie in. We took our photo in front of the bare pole, loaded the bikes into the van and for the first time in what seemed like months, we headed south.

PS: I hope everyone has enjoyed following our trip. We certainly found it helpful to know people were rooting for us and the money we have raised for Woodlarks has made all the more worth while. On this subject, I 'd like to invite anyone who hasn't yet done so to sponsor our trip and help the Woodlarks Campsite Trust to enter a new era of provision for disabled campers. Email any pledges directly to myself, Tim or Ben.

Thanks for your support.

Ben, Tim & Craig

Craig - I can now no longer call you "Old Man!" after the effort you put in on the cycle ride. Perhaps we could do a British pie shop tour as thats the only way I would get around on a bike. James

A well deserved drink of bubbly!

Bens last blog......At last we've finally finished after 975 miles and 13½ days riding.

We got started early as we wanted to avoid the rain that was forecast for later in the morning and were soon flying along with a very healthy tailwind helping us to average 20 mph over the remaining 39 miles.

We rode past the John O'Groats sign and through the village 3 abreast feeling pretty pleased with ourselves at around 11:15am and Matt and Ally then accompanied us the remaining 2 miles to Duncansby Head (the true furthest north and east point) on their mountain bikes where Matt produced a bottle of champagne and after half a mug each we were all half cut as the alcohol  had gone straight to our heads!

All of us are feeling pretty tired now and we plan to get packed and have a snooze this afternoon and then we'll celebrate over a meal and some drinks in the pub.

We'd all like to say a very big thank you for your support over the last 2 weeks, the various e-mails, texts, and messages on the Woodlarks website have been much appreciated.

Special thanks go to Mark, Matt & Ally for driving the support vehicles, doing the shopping, cooking, arranging the accommodation and generally looking after us over the last 2 weeks.  Also to Jim for working all hours keeping the website up to date and to Jim & Sarah and Mike & Lynne for putting us up and feeding us.

Extra special thanks go to Sarah, Julie, Rachel & Vix for their constant support during the trip and in the months of training beforehand.

Ben, Tim & Craig
