Fundraising Update - MAY 2008

A newsletter will be coming out in July/August with further details of the progress of Project Woodpecker but in the meantime please see the fund raising information below.

Sainsbury's Vouchers

Many thanks to all of you who have been collecting the Sainsbury's Active Kids 08 vouchers.  They are still available from Sainsbury’s until 4th June, however we need to 'cash them in' very soon after this date so please, please send them to Woodlarks ASAP, as it would be such a shame to waste them after all your hard work collecting.

Many thanks,
Ali Fox

Summer Fetes & Shows

Below are dates for Fundraising shows in and around Farnham in the near future.  Help is required at all of these but in particular the Bourne Show on 19th July.  Some of us are in Camp and will be unable to attend.  All of the events are on a Saturday.

14 June - Farnham Charities Garden Party - No theme.
21 June - Frensham Village Fayre - Theme is ‘Medieval Times’.
28 June - Farnham Carnival - Theme is ‘A Colourful World’.
19 July - Bourne Show - No theme.

Golf Day

Another date for your diaries - help is required to assist at Hindhead Golf Day - this will be held on 28th August and they will require stewards and marshalls.  This will be a long, tiring but fun day (so you have time to get fit).  Proceeds of this day are coming to Project Woodpecker.

Please either phone or email me if you want further information or are able to volunteer for any of the above my email address is mick.stuart@woodlarks.org.uk
ASAP.

Thanks,
Mick Stuart

FUNDRAISING REPORT – WOODLARKS CAMP SITE TRUST 2007

This year has seen an increased effort on the part of the Committee and others towards raising funds for the redevelopment of the site.

Alexine has spent many a long hour in dealing with the major funders, which are needed to pay for most of work.  Nick has also spent many long nights on his computer searching for goods and services.  I would also like to thank the Fundraising Sub-Committee, Eddy Meyers, Brian & Louise Drew, David Filmer and Ali Fox (who has had to give up the s/c but continues searching for funding).

We have been involved in several varying types of fundraising activities through the year.  February saw a long-term friend of the Camp Site, Jim Hayat, and myself clearing a house near Hastings.  Many of the goods and books were sold at the Fete.  In early March a Chocolate Tasting event was organised but after a very poor response we cut our losses and cancelled the event.  Over the same weekend at least a dozen people spent a lot of time and effort preparing fruit for jams and chutneys for the Woodlarks Fete in June.  It took me weeks to eat another apple.  Our next outing was the Easter Duck Race in Farnham.  An entertaining day, where we made a small profit.  In May the Hedgehogs held a Golf Day where we were the major beneficiaries.

On Saturday 16th June the joint Fete with Woodlarks Workshop was held.  A wonderful day with almost perfect weather.  Almost all of the jams and chutneys prepared in March were sold.  We had arranged a licensed bar for the first time.  It seemed to go well and there was no apparent drunkenness.  The company running the bar, a very kind gesture, levied no charge.  On Wednesday 27th June there was a Celebration of Youth held in Woking where we had a stall.  Saturday 30th June was the Farnham Carnival and again we put in an appearance.  It was an awful day where the rain simply would not stop.  A river ran through our tent taking up about half the floor space at one time.  Nevertheless we enjoyed ourselves and still managed to make a small profit.

The Bourne Show on 21st July was again a wet and miserable occasion.  In July the Wooden Spoon charity also confirmed that they would pay £25,000 towards overhead tracking for phase one of the rebuild.  They had sent two people at different times earlier in the year to assess and discuss our requirements.  September saw Eddy Meyers reach his fiftieth birthday and a “whip round” raised £300.

Our latest outing was to the Christmas Lights Charity Fair in Farnham on Saturday 24th November. A cold but dry day which was very enjoyable and a good amount raised.

Many thanks go to all the usual suspects for their help in preparing, attending and clearing at these events.  You know who you are – I will not embarrass you further.

Other groups have also hosted events and raised our profile.  Lynn & Glen from Trekkers arranged an ”Elvis” night, which was quite successful.  Graham Fox has kept me informed of various initiatives he became aware of as well as attending events to let others know of our appeal.  His persistence with the Yorkshire Building Society has also paid dividends.

Keep up the good work!
There have been several sponsored walks and cycle rides for the benefit of Project Woodpecker.   Thanks to Jackie Agar, Jill Metcalf & Carol Drury, Julie Grange and Ann Chaplin for their walks.   Some mad cyclists went from Lands End to John O’Groats.   Tim Dicker, Craig Southwell and Ben Wood from Sheffords Working Party.   James Skinner decided to go the other way, finishing at Lands End.   If I have forgotten anyone I apologise.

Sales of the book “Another Time, Another Place” continue but at a much slower pace.   Collecting Boxes continue to bring in a small but regular income.

The Brick Campaign continues apace.  Keep up the good work David Filmer.
The recycling of old mobile ‘phones has ground to a halt.   There are hundreds laying around that are not used or needed.  It does not matter if the ‘phone is not working.   Please check your own and ask your friends and send them to me care of the Camp Site.

Other ideas are being worked on and will be published on the Website when ready.   We have been invited to a couple of Carole Services in December where we will benefit from collections.  One is at Farnham Castle and the other sponsored by Girl Guides in Hale.

We have several bids in for funding and the coming year will be even more challenging than the last.   Please keep up your support!

Help raise funds by running your own fundraising event or project

  • Contribute cakes, plants, or prizes, or consider running your own stall at the Woodlarks fete in June. (Contact Louise Drew, Fete Organiser on 01252 665333 for more info.
  • Hold a Dinner Party with a purpose - invite your friends around and get them all to chip into the pot in return for being wined and dined. If you can't cook, why not order a take away and add a few extra pounds on top of the ticket price for Project Woodpecker.
  • Take Cake to Work - A nice, sociable way to contribute to Project Woopecker is to bake a cake and invite your colleauges, friends or neighbours to buy a slice - and send the profits to Woodlarks. If you're not a cake-baking type, you could still have fun by buying a cake and selling slices of that. Everyone welcomes a luxury snack mid-morning or when the day flags in mid-afternoon too!
  • Run a Bonus Ball Syndicate - How does it work? Well, first you have to recruit 49 friends, neighbours, and/or colleagues to become your syndicate. You allocate each member a number between 1 and 49. Each player puts in £1 however often you want to play - weekly, monthly or just a few times a year. You agree in advance the share of the £49 that goes to the winner, and what share you retain for Project Woodpecker. Use the bonus ball number from the Wednesday or Saturday Lotto game to decide the winner.

Whatever you raise, big or small, and by whatever means, please send the proceeds to 'Woodlarks Camp Site Trust', and clearly indicate that the funds are for Project Woodpecker.
